HUMBLE TREASURE
God sees us as His treasure! So where does humility come in?
This Substack platform is proving a wonderful way to share some of the prayers and poems I’ve written over the years. For far too long I only shared with family and close friends, being too shy (or fearful) for anything more. After a while I occasionally shared in a small group or even in church (after clearing it with the leader in advance). After many years I was asked for a selection for an anthology; what a honour!
After attending a Christian Creative Writing event run by the Association of Christian Writers (ACW) it was suggested I try using a blog. Having no idea how to go about it, I asked my brother-in-law what platform he used and how it worked. He recommended Substack and, last September, I took the plunge!
I’m so glad I did! Since signing up I’ve had the joy of reading so many good stories, received blessings from inspiring articles, and learned a great deal about the Bible from those who know so much more than I do.
So I offer my work and prayers in case they touch a chord with someone. If the following resonates with you, please let me know ❤️
The piece below was written just before I had shingles. This triggered a chronic illness leading to frequent bouts of exhaustion. Perhaps in speaking to me about this God was preparing me for what was to come? I know for sure that God has a sense of humour! Although the situation of fatigue and illness is ongoing, I know God doesn’t discard me because of it. I may not be able to attend everything, earn a wage, or offer practical help very often. But I know I still need to come to Him and receive all He knows I need each day - even if it’s not as much as I’d like! I know it’s enough and that I’m held, loved, valued and rejoiced over - whatever.
HUMBLE TREASURE
Dear One,
You are my treasure!
I delighted in your creation,
and I delight in your life!
I provide you
with every breath you need
and every molecule of energy you use
as I sustain the universe - and more.
You are my treasure
and I delight in you!
You are my creation
and I am proud of you!
It's your company I long for,
I await your approach expectantly -
waiting to give you my gifts.
My gifts lie waiting for collection -
when will you come?
I know you can’t do without them,
all you have is from me –
your every breath and movement
is my creation - my idea.
My gifts are manna in the desert for you,
and like the manna in the desert
they last only for the moment of immediate need,
they are used up,
consumed,
exhausted,
and I wait expectantly
for your call for more…
It doesn’t always come,
and I have to watch
while you become tired
and ineffective,
bewildered and frustrated.
When will you come?
My treasure, my delight -
come to me!
Know your need of me.
Realise that your feelings
of emptiness,
your frustration
and your tiredness
are intended to draw you to me.
Don't lose heart or faith
when life is a struggle!
Realise your need of me!
Come to me,
I will not send you away empty.
Come to me,
I will show you a different way -
sharing your burden,
or replacing it
with something much easier to carry.
I am waiting to fill you
with every good gift you need –
I am your strength and your power!
I am your strength and your song!
I am your strength and your shield!
With me is strength and wisdom!
My strength is different from earthly strength -
and you need it!
When you recognise your need of me -
when you are humble treasure in my presence,
you will find strength,
wisdom,
unity,
peace of mind and heart,
and many more gifts
you never realised you needed -
practical gifts for everyday living
as well as spiritual blessings.
Come to me empty
and receive
all you need -
each day.
With love from Your Abba, Father xx
