CRACKPOTS OR TREASURE TROVES?
... Or are we both?
The title to this one is deliberately a play on words. I suppose it should read ‘Cracked Pots or Treasure Troves.’ But I couldn't resist using the word ‘crackpots’ instead!
Christians are often accused of being foolish to follow a Saviour with such improbable claims, so perhaps we are crackpots! But this isn't only about Christians - although the Bible verse below refers to the light (treasure) of salvation (knowing Jesus as our Lord) all of us are made in the image of God, so all of us have some of His treasure within us. It just needs to be found. And when the Holy Spirit is allowed access, there's no limit to our treasure, as it's renewed daily!
2 Corinthians 4:7 NLT — “We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.”
CRACKPOTS OR TREASURE TROVES?
We are all pots made of clay,
and we all contain some treasure of God,
but many of us are squashed
and the treasure gets stuck or hidden.
God can re-shape squashed pots –
all of them!
We’re never too dried out
for Him to handle.
(pause)
Let Him reshape you.
Let Him ease out some of the
dents and bruises;
mend some of the chips and cracks.
Be amazed at the treasure you find –
and how much easier it is to share it!
(pause)
But what if you feel like you're broken
beyond repair?
Then hear this -
God never discards His work!
He is The Master Potter
And He knows
how to make you shine again!
In the poem, I purposefully say ‘some’ of the cracks and chips need mending. Some of them will remain as that's part of how God’s treasure seeps out!
Similarly, some of the bruises and dents that remain are where we allow the treasure from others to help us. We can't be perfect, we're not meant to be. We need each other - and we need Jesus!

i love the picture. a beautiful example of the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where cracks are repaired with glue mixed with gold, and the broken pottery becomes considered more beautiful and precious because of its flaws.
